Job Title: Financial Planning Manager

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

The Role:

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the Financial Planning Manager will play a pivotal role in the strategic direction of the finance department and the wider business, shaping the scope and content of the key themes which will underpin the longer term Business Plan. The role will be responsible for providing valuable insights through modelling capability to support the various short, medium and long term business plans of the business, thus enabling senior business stakeholders to make well informed tactical and strategic decisions.

This role will involve managing and developing strong relationships with senior stakeholders including the Board and directors of the business, working effectively with various finance & business stakeholders across the organisation to co-ordinate, manage and support the compilation of robust forecasts, budgets and strategic plans.Job Purpose:

To provide financial modelling, planning and analysis skills to model complex financial data, contributing proactively to the growth and development of the organisation’s activities through the provision of sound financial data to support senior management decisions and the overall business goals and objectives.

The position encompasses the management and reporting of the business KPIs, strategic and budgetary/forecasting planning, cash flow forecasting, and ensuring compliance with financial borrowing covenants.

About the role

Main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Ownership of the long-term strategic operating model for the business, including involvement in development, maintenance and updating as required

  • Management of budgeting, forecasting and long-term planning within the business

  • Overview of banking requirements to ensure compliance in line with the company lending facilities in place

  • Modelling and assessment of dividend requirements in order to meet company and shareholder expectations

  • Forecast potential business cases and strategy options as required

  • Partner with external advisers to improve on existing models

  • Present models & outputs to senior finance and non-finance stakeholders

  • Ad hoc analysis as required by the business to assist in business making decisions

What you will need

Required criteria

  • A recognised accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACMA, ACCA).
  • Educated to degree level in an appropriate discipline.
  • Post qualification experience at a management level, together with a solid understanding of technical accounting, financial, company and taxation legislation.
  • Experience in working at the highest levels of financial management in a large complex organisation
  • Experience of working in a utility or in the energy industry or similar environment while not essential would be desirable.
  • Understanding of business issues and drivers with the ability to analyse and resolve business issues quickly.
  • Excellent IT skills; experience in working with a range of finance systems is desirable.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with a proven track record leading a high performance team with line management responsibility.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills aligned with our brand values.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to prioritise workload.
