Heavy Equipment Operator

The successful candidate will work in our materials recovery facility will work with a team that will be responsible for the segregation & loading of incoming & out-going waste material. 

The Heavy Equipment Operator will report to the Solid Waste Operations Manager.

About the role

What the job involves:

  • Segregation of incoming waste material using a materials handler equipped with a sorting grab into stockpiles.

  • Loading of walking floor trailers for out-going waste with a materials handler.

  • Loading of trucks and trailers for out-going waste with loading shovel.

  • Shunting of trailers on site.

  • Loading of sorting lines for segregation of waste material with a materials handler.

  • Supervision and operation of sorting lines on a daily basis.

  • Regular washing of yard and general housekeeping.

  • Accurate recording and safe unloading of third-party customer loads.

  • Adhere to regular maintenance schedule of all machinery in the MRF.

  • Understand the job system and with the ability to work with a team.

Experience Required

  • 3 plus years’ experience in the waste & recycling or construction industry.

  • Good time management and ability to work under your own initiative is required.

  • Must be able to work with & as part of a team.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment to meet deadlines without compromising safety & productivity.

  • Work closely with the site supervisor and management.

  • Have good time management skills and be able to show initiative.

  • Be self-motivated, enthusiastic and committed to succeed in this fast-paced role.

  • Have a full clean driving license. C and C1 licence a plus but not essential.

  • Hold valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling Certificates.

  • Valid CSCS Card (360 Excavator) ticket essential, other construction tickets would be an advantage.

  • Comfortable working with varying equipment types from 5.0T to 25T.
