Group Accountant

We are currently recruiting for a full-time Group Accountant who will be a trusted advisor to the senior members of the group, providing strong financial leadership and proactively contributing to the continued growth of the overall business. The successful candidate will also be involved in driving revenue and profit growth, identifying and implementing cost efficiencies and ultimately providing finance advice and strategy while providing a cohesive commercial overview of the various strands of the business.

Additionally, the successful candidate will have full responsibility over all aspects of the finance function and will collaborate closely with other business areas, including Operations and Human Resources. This role, being multifaceted and spread across different business sectors, requires comprehensive experience in both accounting and finance – showing an ability to cohesively manage and grow the overall finance function of a modern, progressive group.

About the role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on identifying and implementing internal and external commercial opportunities, including business growth, cost-saving initiatives, revenue generation, and internal operational efficiencies.

  • Proactively work with the operational team to develop, monitor and drive relevant key performance indicators to assess group and individual staff performance.

  • Identify and implement automated processes, strengthen data and analytic capabilities and improve reporting controls to support the strategic direction of the business.

  • Identify and implement all required forward financial planning tools, including, but not limited to:

    • Cashflow

    • Gearing ratios

    • Covenant Compliance

  • Producing and presenting financial models and/or forecasts which encompass integrated P&L/Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statements.

  • Ensure the finance function has robust, compliant processes that scale as the business grows, produce timely, accurate financial information, maintain disciplined financial controls, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency within the function.

  • Ensure consistent reporting to and from the finance team for all departments in the group.

  • Provide a clear and insightful rationale for variances in performance and in reporting on exceptions within the group on a proactive basis.

  • Developing and implementing a clear Financial IT strategy to a standard of “best in class” for the group and ensuring effective operation of the same;

  • Monitor the group’s banking activities and ensure appropriate systems and controls are in place.

  • Effectively manage relationships with professional advisers, including auditors, banks, insurance brokers and solicitors.

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the Macklin Group’s financial matters, including

    • Planning

    • Budgeting

    • Forecasting

    • Cashflow Management

    • Tax planning

    • Management of debtors and creditors

    • Reporting requirements

    • Oversight of payroll, audit process, financial reporting and compliance

  • The efficient and timely presentation of data relating to the Company's financial performance, as and when agreed.

  • Expenditure control to include ensuring effective authorisation procedures for all expenditure.

  • Provide leadership to the finance team and effectively communicate with the finance team members their responsibilities, establishing systems, structures and clear reporting lines to maximise the efficiency of the finance function; and

  • Interact and provide appropriate support to Managers in other business areas of the group.

Essential Criteria:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant business discipline.

  • At least 5 years of similar experience.

  • Must hold a full UK driving licence and be prepared to travel to the premises of the group.

  • Significant experience at a senior level within a large customer-driven environment.

  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to demonstrate the management of a finance team, including redefining roles and responsibilities of the team as required.

  • Experience in providing finance advice and strategy across a group of companies in a cohesive commercial manner.

  • Proven ability to produce and present robust financial projections with integrated profit & loss, balance sheet and cash flow statements.

  • Proven ability to integrate with other business areas and effectively work with managers on implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Proven ability to set targets to motivate and lead staff to achieve commercial targets;

  • Proven record of identifying and implementing cost-saving initiatives, revenue generation, and internal operational efficiencies; and
