The Manufacturing Engineer for Assembly Operations is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving manufacturing processes to ensure efficient production, high-quality output, and safety compliance in assembly operations. This role involves working closely with design engineers, production teams, and quality control to optimize the assembly line processes, troubleshoot issues, and implement cost-effective solutions.

About the role

Responsibilities:

 

·       Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, and materials conferring with all relevant personnel both internally and externally; soliciting observations from operators to improve the efficiency of the processes

·       Evaluate the design of all new and existing parts to ensure they are designed for easy assembly to help ensure the right fit the first time in the most efficient manner

·       Create Manufacturing Process Plans for components to be manufactured

·       Create Manufacturing Bills of Materials ensuring accuracy to the Engineering Design

·       Maintain the ERP system to ensure efficient operation of the production process

·       The CNC Programming of CNC Profiling Machines using Nesting Software

·       Provide Engineering support to the production process to resolve, Quality, Process and Manufacturing Issues.

·       Lead and provide input to Design for Manufacture activities.

·       Develop and implement manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, and materials while working with the various departments and teams to implement the best solution

·       Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods.

·       Improve efficiency by analysing and planning workflow, space requirements, labour and layouts to ensure maximum use of labour and space to build a quality product in the shortest possible time

·       Implementing Best Practice Standard Operating Procedures onto Shop floor

·       Implement Lean Manufacturing principles including capacity balancing, 5S, Poke Yoke etc.

·       Coordination of Production, Engineering and Quality Assurance Departments to establish/implement containment and route cause fixes to manufacturing issues

·       Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labour, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.

·       Create loading models to ensure assemblies are loaded safely, securely an efficiently

Required criteria

  • - 3rd level of education with a relevant engineering degree or significant Manufacturing Experience
  • - Experience in Manufacturing methods and processes.
  • - Experience with Lean Manufacturing Methods
  • - Excellent communication, negotiating and influencing skills
  • - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • - Excellent planning and organising skills
  • - Attentive to detail
  • - Able to work under pressure
  • - Dependable and reliable
  • - Enthusiastic, energetic self-starter able to work on their own initiative
  • - Willingness to develop and adapt to new situations

Desired criteria

  • - Further qualification/certification in the discipline
  • - Fabrication knowledge would be advantageous
  • - Solidedge knowledge would be advantageous
