Control Software Engineer (Full time, Permanent)
In this role you will design and manage control system software to enable the Company to stay ahead in the market through its standard product range but also special one-off vehicles.
About the role
In this role you will design and manage control system software to enable the Company to stay ahead in the market through its standard product range but also special one-off vehicles. Involvement will be through the full product life cycle from initial sales/requirements to after services support.
The software team is very much a supplier to the rest of the business to help the company to push boundaries in technology and meet customer requirements and new ways of working.
Key duties are:
· Develop and maintain PLC and SCADA software
· Develop, test and implement new software to fulfil the functional specification
· Continuous development of product software capabilities and functions to maintain our market position in leading customer requirements
· Version control and collaborative development
· Create and maintain clear technical documentation, including design documents, test reports, and user manuals
· Adherence to all SMD QA processes
· Potentially working away to help support customers or part of system development (1 – 4 times a year)
What skills and qualifications do I need?
We are looking for someone with a degree in the relevant subject or with strong experience in software programming including scripting (if/case statements) with competency in any of the following areas to the cross over:
· PLC
· SCADA
· Application software design
Experience in machine control/automation and communication networks (ethernet, RS232, RS485) Full training on our products will be provided within the role.
A strong team player who is customer focused with excellent attention to detail and flexibility to multi-task and prioritise. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated who enjoys the technical aspects of engineering and is always looking for continuous improvement with a willingness to learn.
Experience in the following is desirable but not essential:
Understanding hydraulic schematics
Understanding electrical schematics
Understanding of electrical standards
Rockwell PLC experience
Intouch SCADA experience
Jmobile (EXOR) experience
What you will need
Required criteria
- Relevant software engineering degree or equivalent or relevant experience
- Strong experience in PLC and SCADA software programming or capable of demonstrating relevant experience
- Interpret schematics and understand electronic components
- Communication Networks (Ethernet, RS232, RS485)
Desired criteria
- Rockwell PLC Experience (Desirable)
- AVEVA InTouch Experience (Desirable)
