Hours: 0800-1700 Monday - Thursday, 0800-1600 Friday + requirement to work occasional on-call over weekend as part of team roster

Compensation: £38,373 + on-call allowance + OTE

About the role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for servicing, repairing and maintaining all plant equipment and mechanical systems to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations. Working under the direction of the Mechanical Supervisor and in line with the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), you will deliver a responsive and high-quality maintenance service while fully complying with all health, safety and legislative requirements. The role is primarily based at the Port of Dundee, with flexibility to support maintenance activities across other locations as required.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure that all jobs are undertaken safely, with due regard to risk assessments, permit-to-work requirements, working procedures and statutory legislation. Responsible for wearing protective clothing and notifying a Supervisor of any potential hazards.

  • Take a proactive approach to maintaining all mechanical equipment and promptly report any damage or misuse to a Supervisor. Liaise with operational staff as appropriate to coordinate repairs.

  • Maintain a high standard of work and productivity in line with good customer service.

  • Develop a thorough working knowledge of plant equipment and associated drawings in order to repair and maintain equipment to minimise downtime.

  • Demonstrate initiative, sound judgment and strong organisational skills to work independently and ensure tasks are completed accurately and safely.

  • Keep management and engineering staff fully informed of timescales for completion of tasks. This is particularly essential during busy peak periods.

  • Undertake any ancillary tasks as required.

 

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a proactive and safety-focused Mechanical Fitter who is comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces and in varying weather conditions. You will be flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to travel occasionally to other Company sites and to participate in an on-call rota when required. The role involves regular work in dusty environments and exposure to grains, oils and greases, so you must be able to meet medical and PPE requirements, including face-fit testing (clean-shaven). You will have a strong commitment to safe working practices, teamwork and maintaining plant equipment to a high standard.

 

Skills and experience required:

  • Completion of a recognised Apprenticeship with a minimum HNC Mechanical Engineering qualification.

  • Experience in heavy mechanical engineering in an industrialised environment.

  • Experience of maintenance, repair and operation of mechanical systems including cranes, shovels, forklift trucks and hydraulic operating systems.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, engineering principles and design techniques.

  • Full driving licence, valid in the UK.

  • Full right to work in the UK.
