The Home

Magherafelt Manor is a beautiful and modern residential care and nursing home situated in Magherafelt, County Londonderry, providing 24hour, professional and person-centred care for older people, including those living with dementia or in need of general nursing.

We pride ourselves on our kind and caring nature and uphold the highest levels of dignity and respect, no matter what. The home has the capacity for up to 64 people, across several homely units, decorated and furnished to offer a safe and comfortable home-from-home living environment for residents to enjoy. Magherafelt Manor has excellent amenities, including a café, comfortable lounges and dining spaces, enabling residents to maintain their independence as much as is possible, in the safest possible environment.

All our private, light and spacious bedrooms are fully-furnished, with the benefit of en-suite bathroom facilities. Residents are very welcome to bring their own home accessories and furniture, to personalise their space and make it their home.

We are dedicated to providing quality care for the residents living with dementia and for those who are cared for in their rooms; our whole team approach to wellbeing means that everyone feels part of our lovely, welcoming community.  

 The Role

We are on the lookout for an enthusiastic and sociable Activities Coordinator to join our team. Your primary responsibility as a Activities Coordinator will involve creating and executing engaging activities tailored to each of our residents. Additionally, you will be responsible for mentoring and training our staff on how to interact and engage with residents, ensuring that every day is filled with special moments. Your role will involve ensuring that residents' dignity and self-esteem are upheld through meaningful interactions, positive relationships, and the freedom to express their individuality.

About the role

Main Responsibilities

  • Preparing, planning and delivering group and individual recreational and occupational activities, observing, recording and reporting resident response.

  • Engage with residents in one-on-one or group activities, such as games, crafts, music, exercise, outings and social events based on their interest and preferences.

  • Setting up and organising of activity areas, including gathering supplies, arranging furniture and displaying materials.

  • Ensure the effective, timely and accurate updating of records, case files and computerised information systems.

  • Stay informed about best practices and trends in wellbeing and activities for residents.

  • Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required as designated by the Home Manager.

About you:

We are looking for a Activities Coordinator with a positive, forward-thinking attitude who can inspire and lead others. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, and experience in a care home setting is a plus. Previous experience in organising activities or leading groups is also beneficial. You should be assertive yet flexible in your approach. We've found that successful Activities Coordinators come from diverse backgrounds.

What you will need

Required criteria

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent with a good standard of written and verbal English
  • Well-developed communication, observational and active listening skills.
  • Experience in related field
  • The Right to Work in the UK

Desired criteria

  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a regulated care or support environment
