Estates Officer - Field-Based (North East of England)

This role is field-based and is to cover the Company's Care Homes throughout the North East of England.

We are looking for an Estates Officer to oversee and support the maintenance team in our North East Care Homes. You will be working closely with the Estates Manager, maintenance staff, Home Managers and Senior Managers to carry out day to day maintenance on the Groups Homes, their services and grounds in order to ensure that the Groups Homes are maintained in a safe and efficient functional order both internally and externally.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance:

1.                   Maintain the Groups Care Homes’ internally and externally by completing basic repairs as and when required in a safe manner.

2.                   Carry out all the duties of the Homes Maintenance person in their absence or when a post is vacant. (see Hill Care Maintenance Person Job Description)

3.                   As required, complete all homes recording documentation as per Hill Care standards, reporting immediately, direct to the Home Manager, any issues noted and to the Estates Manager any issues

causing concern which need further attention.

4.                   Monitor the work and records of all existing Maintenance Personnel at each visit to ensure the home complies with all legislation.

5.                   In conjunction with the Estates Manager identify Capital Expenditure work required within or outwith a Care Home to ensure its safe continuation of providing care to vulnerable people.

6.                   Report and action any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture / equipment and any other potential hazards directly to the Home Manager, who will advise accordingly.

7.                   Lead the induction and on-site training of new Maintenance personnel in the care home.

8.                   Liaise effectively and professionally with outside contractors ensure all works required are completed in a timely and safe manner.

9.                   Ensure all works booked in to a care home have a purchase order number before the works commence. All expenditure must be approved by the Home Manager (or above) or the Estates

Manager.

10.                Ensure all group wide projects are implemented as required (eg LED lighting, TMV testing/replacement)

11.                Travel extensively throughout the whole group as instructed by the Estates Manager

Budgetary/Financial Control:

12.                Adhere to finance policy when purchasing equipment or materials.

Communication:

13.                Liaise with Estate’s Manager at all times about the Care Homes and actions required.

 

14.                Participate in Team meetings as required.

Training and Development:

15.                Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.

16.                Maintain professional knowledge and competence. Health and Safety:

17.                Maintain complete and accurate records for all health & safety monitoring, and day-to-day repairs at all times.

18.                Complete all Maintenance and other records correctly and thoroughly.

19.                Adhere to manual handling principles at all times.

20.                Ensure that all equipment and materials used are stored only in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions.

21.                Ensure areas in which any work is being done is well ventilated and safe for Clients, Visitors and Staff Members.

22.                Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Client, colleague, self or another.

23.                Understand and ensure the implementation of the Company’s Health and Safety policy, and each homes Emergency and Fire procedures.

24.                Promote safe working practice in the Groups’ homes. General:

25.                Cover for annual leave / absence in the Group as and when appropriate.

26.                Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Group.

27.                Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.

28.                Notify the Estates Manager as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.

29.                Ensure the security of the Groups Care Homes is maintained at all times.

30.                Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.

31.                Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.

32.                Carry out any other tasks which may be reasonably assigned to you. Emergencies:

33.                Be ‘on-call’ for advice / action in any emergencies which may arise out of hours.

 

34.                Where a fault cannot be rectified, provide details of the fault to the Home Manager / Person in Charge or the Estates Manager as soon as possible so that services are not disrupted for lengthy

periods and appropriate instructions can be given regarding action to take.
