Due to continuous growth and investment, we are seeking to recruit a number of new Trainee Technical Operator to join us in. You will have the opportunity to join an exciting and innovative workplace, working with state-of-the-art machinery and equipment.
As a Trainee Technical Operator at Brett Martin, you will work:
12-hour shifts rotating days and nights, including weekends
40.25 or 46 hours per week, depending on shift pattern
7 or 8 out of every 14 days / nights, depending on shift pattern
£15.11 - £ £16.90 per hour inclusive of shift premium
Salary up to £36,145.55 inclusive of shift premium
About the role
The Role:
Set up, operate and control production machinery and ancillary equipment
Ensure materials, processes and finished products meet specification and quality standards
Identify, resolve and document production issues, including scrap and downtime
Manage non‑conforming materials in line with company procedures
Maintain high standards of health & safety, housekeeping and cleanliness
Support team coordination and allocate operators in the absence of a Team Leader
Contribute to training, continuous improvement and best practice
About You:
Proven experience in a manufacturing or production environment
Strong technical understanding of production machinery and processes
Quality‑focused with excellent attention to detail
Confident working independently and supporting others on shift
Proactive, reliable and safety‑driven

What you will need
Required criteria
- Minimum of 2 years in a technical/mechanical role
- Proactive in solving technical/process issues
- Clear understanding of performance targets
- Familiarity with day-to-day activities (housekeeping, H&S, recycling, energy efficiency)
Desired criteria
- Technical qualification in mechanical or production engineering
- Familiarity with plastics processing and extrusion experience
- Experience in TPM, preferably in a continuous processing environment
- Shift work experience (including nights and weekends)
