Fibre Optic Engineer (Employed)

About the role:
Ventus Energy are seeking an experienced and qualified Fibre Optic Engineer to join a talented team of personnel within our Projects Division; responsible for delivering high-voltage cable installations, jointing, termination and testing and fibre optic installations across a range of HV infrastructure projects.
This is a permanent employed role, offering a competitive salary with an additional enhanced day rate when working on site or offshore.
Projects are carried out both onshore and offshore and predominantly across the UK, Europe and Asia. Therefore, with this position, there will be requirements to go offshore and abroad for periods of time.
Location: Applicants must be UK based and able to attend our Head Office in North Shields when required.
About the role
Key Responsibilities:
Installation, termination and splicing of fibre optic cables
Performing of OTDR Testing – including:
- Setting up cables for test using launch leads and bare end adapters.
- Operation of test set and software inc manual measurements including pulse widths, refraction index settings, reflectance detection and wave length settings
- Distance/Loss Measurements
- Interpretation and reporting of traces to locate events of interest including bending, splicing and connectors.
Ensure all fibre works comply with project specifications, industry standards, and best practice
Complete installation reports, test results, and quality documentation
Maintain high standards of HSEQ compliance at all times
Support Ventus Energy through developing and maintaining a strong relationship with clients and ensuring that the highest quality service is delivered at all times.
Support reporting processes by regularly identifying opportunities for improvement, and ensuring near misses, safety observations etc. are reported.
Development & Support
We recognise the right candidate may bring relevant experience from a different sector. On-the-job training will be provided to support the learning curve—particularly for candidates with strong fibre optic capability who may be new to offshore wind requirements.
What you will need
Required criteria
- Proven experience as a Fibre Engineer, carrying out fibre optic installation and testing
- Professional Reference(s)
- Fibre Optic qualifications - 3668 City & Guilds qualified or equivalent
- Experience OTDR Testing
- Attention to detail and a solution orientated approach
- Able to work well with other personnel and within a team
- Valid Passport
- Full and Clean Driving Licence
Desired criteria
- Experience in the offshore engineering industry.
- Familiarity with FO installation and testing methodology in the offshore wind sector
