Summary

The Maintenance Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the hotel remains in excellent operating condition by performing routine maintenance, repairs, and preventive upkeep across guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities. This role supports the guest experience by maintaining a safe, clean, and fully functional environment in accordance with hotel policies, brand standards, and health and safety regulations.

About the role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on guest rooms and public areas, including lighting, electrical fixtures, furniture, and décor.

  • Conduct painting, touch-ups, and minor carpentry to maintain room aesthetics.

  • Repair or replace basic appliances and electronics such as televisions, telephones, kettles, air conditioning units, etc.

  • Execute minor plumbing tasks, including fixing leaks, unclogging drain, and replacing bathroom fixtures.

  • Repair and maintain flooring surfaces including carpet, tile and marble as needed.

  • Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance throughout the property (front and back of house).

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised workspace, including the hotel’s maintenance and plant areas.

  • Monitor maintenance supply inventory and communicate needs to the Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Collaborate with external contractors and vendors, ensuring their compliance with hotel safety and operational standards.

  • Participate in safety and emergency procedures including fire drills  and serve as part of the hotel’s emergency response team.

  • Handle master keys responsibly, ensuring guest and staff safety at all times.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has prior maintenance experience in a hospitality or similar environment.

  • Will ideally have technical training or certifications in plumbing, electrical, HVAC or general maintenance.

  • Basic knowledge of building systems, mechanical operations, and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to guest satisfaction.

  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Has prior maintenance experience in a hospitality or similar environment.

  • Will ideally have technical training or certifications in plumbing, electrical, HVAC or general maintenance.

  • Basic knowledge of building systems, mechanical operations, and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
