Deputy Manager

40 hours per week including weekends, and bank holidays.

2-3 days supernumerary, the rest will be based working on the floor as part of the shift.

To support the General Manager in the effective day-to-day running of the care home, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care for residents including those who are living with dementia.

The Deputy Manager provides leadership to the care team, oversees clinical and operational activities, and helps maintain compliance with regulatory standards and organisational policies.

About the role

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Staff Management

• Assist the General Manager in leading, supervising, and motivating the care team.

• Support staff recruitment, induction, training, and ongoing development.

• Conduct supervisions, appraisals, and competency assessments.

• Act as a positive role model, promoting best practices in dementia care.

• Manage staffing rotas to ensure appropriate coverage and skill mix.

2. Care Quality & Compliance

• Ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care tailored to the needs of individuals.

• Support compliance with CQC standards, including audits, documentation, and the home’s action plan.

• Participate in policy development, risk assessments, and quality improvement initiatives.

• Monitor care plans, assessments, and daily records to ensure accuracy and safeguarding of residents.

3. Resident Wellbeing & Clinical Oversight

• Work closely with residents, families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care.

• Oversee medication management, health monitoring, and clinical risk controls.

• Facilitate dementia-friendly support plans that promote independence, dignity, and wellbeing.

• Respond to emergencies, safeguarding concerns, or changes in residents’ health needs.

4. Operational Management

• Assist with budget monitoring, resource allocation, and stock control.

• Ensure the home’s environment remains safe, clean, and dementia-friendly.

• Manage handovers, communication systems, and administrative tasks.

• Oversee incident reporting, complaints resolution, and care governance processes.

• Take an active role in the out-of-hours on-call rota, ensuring appropriate support is available when needed.

5. Acting Up

• Deputise for the General Manager during their absence.

• Make operational decisions aligned with organisational policies and regulatory requirements.

What you will need

Required criteria

  • • Experience working in a dementia care setting.
  • • Supervisory role experience.
  • • Strong understanding of person-centred dementia care models.
  • • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • • Knowledge of CQC regulations and safeguarding procedures and able to give examples.
  • • NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care (willing to work towards Level 5 or equivalent).
  • • Previous experience of working with digital care planning systems.

Desired criteria

  • • Experience in staff training, auditing, or care home management.
  • • Strong IT and care management system skills.
