EHS Manager
Development, implementation and management of Health & Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and Practices. Ensuring all employees are aware of their part to play in the overall HSE systems and processes.
Continually reduce Health, Safety and Environment risks and hazards within the workplace, with a clear focus on continuing the cultural and behavioural programmes initiated so far, thus achieving better results through creating an army of HSE champions.
Be a change agent for Environment, Health and Safety improvements, driving cultural change by positively influencing all associated with the Business. We must feel safety, and enjoy playing our part in the group commitment to achieve Carbon neutrality by 2050.
About the role
To act as the natural 'go to person' for all matters relating to the health, safety, and welfare of all employees whilst at work, including fire safety, and for all matters relating to the protection of the environment, across all company sites and activities.
Maintain an informed knowledge of relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and best practice applicable to all company sites and activities. Ensuring that all requirements are being met and that best practice is being shared.
Develop, communicate and drive the company Health, Safety and Environmental strategy across the business.
Formulate and maintain the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental policies, arrangements and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable systems, recommendations and legislation.
Liaise with external bodies such as national executives, local authorities and specialist groups on Health, Safety and Environmental issues and represent the company and provide advice to customers and other external parties on Health, Safety and Environmental matters.
Initiate, co-ordinate and oversee the implementation of any new Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives across all company sites, teams and business areas.
Monitor compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures and formally advise managers and/or appropriate persons on areas of non-compliance.
Continuously assess training requirements across the company and ensure all personnel are adequately and effectively trained in all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental matters.
Manage accident reporting, investigation and resolution. Ensure that appropriate corrective actions are taken, completed, recorded and reported to managers and/or appropriate persons, this includes recommendation for disciplinary action where required.
Manage, host and support all external Health, Safety and Environmental audit systems and processes (eg ISO45001 & ISO14001), manage the resolution of identified non-compliances, within required timeframes and to required standards.
Identify, manage and carry out internal Health, Safety and Environmental audits across all company sites, teams and business areas.
Oversee the fire safety of the site. Ensure all fire precautions are carried out in line with legislation and best practice; update the company’s Fire Risk Assessment following all construction work and/or ‘shop floor moves’ and review and update at least annually, ensure evacuation plans, fire drills, and training is carried out regularly. Ensure fire audits are undertaken and signage, emergency lighting, firefighting equipment etc. meets requirements.
Compile and present Health, Safety & Environmental management data and provide reports for review at relevant internal (regular & irregular) meetings
Work closely with the SMT to develop a “safety culture” through the introduction of best practice tools and techniques including Toolbox Talks, safety themes, safety action teams, SMACs.
