This is a daytime-only roleno evenings or night shifts—offering you a great work-life balance while making a real difference in people's lives.

📅 Contract: 6-month fixed-term

Hours: 33 hours per week

No Experience? No Problem!

What You’ll Be Doing

💙 Supporting Adults with Learning Disabilities – Empower individuals with complex needs to develop independence, build friendships, and engage in meaningful activities.

🎨 Creating Fun & Engaging Environments – Lead and take part in activities such as arts, sports, community outings, and sensory play, ensuring every day is enjoyable and enriching.

🚶 Encouraging Community Participation – Support individuals to explore their local area, attend activities, and make the most of the world around them.

What you will need

Required criteria

  • Caring and Compassionate Nature – A genuine interest in supporting adults with learning disabilities.
  • Good Communication Skills – Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals, colleagues, and families.
  • Team Player – Willingness to work as part of a supportive team and follow guidance from experienced staff.
  • Positive Attitude & Willingness to Learn – Openness to training and new experiences in a care environment.
  • Reliability & Commitment – Ability to attend shifts punctually and consistently for the duration of the fixed-term contract.
  • Basic Understanding of Respect & Dignity in Care – Awareness of treating individuals with kindness, patience, and respect.
  • Basic Literacy & Numeracy Skills – Ability to read care plans, follow instructions, and record observations if needed.
  • Physically Fit for the Role – Able to support individuals with mobility needs, assist with activities, and be on your feet during shifts.

Desired criteria

  • Previous Volunteering or Personal Experience in Care – Supporting a family member, volunteering, or working with vulnerable people in any capacity.
  • Basic Knowledge of Learning Disabilities & Autism – Awareness of common challenges and support needs.
  • Experience in Customer-Facing Roles – Retail, hospitality, or customer service experience demonstrating patience, problem-solving, and people skills.
  • Creative or Practical Skills – Ability to contribute to activities like arts & crafts, music, cooking, gardening, or sports.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding & Confidentiality – Awareness of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals (training will be provided).
  • First Aid or Basic Life Support Training – Any previous training, even if not formally certified, is a plus.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability – Ability to adapt to changing situations and work with individuals with diverse needs.

Our story

Guild Care was founded in Worthing in 1933 by visionary volunteers dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals in the local community. Originally known as Worthing Council of Social Service, the organisation focused on alleviating poverty, isolation, and health challenges during difficult times. Over the following decades, Guild Care consistently expanded its services, proactively responding to the community's evolving needs.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Guild Care established innovative day centres and residential care homes, significantly enhancing life quality for older adults and individuals with disabilities. Adapting continually, the charity later introduced specialised dementia care facilities and tailored services for those with learning disabilities.

Today, Guild Care supports over 3,000 people annually across West Sussex through a range of community-focused services. Remaining true to its founding values, the organisation is one of Worthing's largest employers, powered by almost 700 dedicated staff members and the essential contributions of more than 300 volunteers, all united in making a meaningful difference.
