Sales Engineer
As a Sales Engineer, you will play a key role in Telestack's sales and engineering operations by providing accurate and timely costing estimates for machines, projects, and new products.
Working closely with the Sales Team, Engineering, Purchasing and Finance departments, you will ensure competitive, reliable cost projections for standard machines, project machines, options, and live projects. Additionally, you will contribute to the technical sales process by handling dealer order forms, price proposals, and generally supporting the sales team.
About the role
Costing Responsibilities (Primary Focus)
Prepare and analyse project machine costs, standard machine costs, and option costs.
Develop new product costing estimates, incorporating materials, labor, and supplier pricing.
Review and respond to RFQ/RFP documents with respect to application requirements, equipment sizing/selection, performance guarantees, commercial terms, etc.
Manage sales opportunities from inquiry to proposal to in-house management to post sale follow-up.
Track ongoing project live costings to ensure adherence to budgets and profitability targets.
Estimate costs for steel (e.g., cost per tonne) and other materials.
Source and validate pricing for purchased parts from suppliers and liaise with the Purchasing team.
Maintain and update cost databases and costing templates to reflect current market trends.
Provide input on pricing strategies to support competitive sales bids.
Assist equipment sales, parts sales, marketing, product management, engineering, and service departments with the development of various deliverables as required.
Sales and Technical Support (Secondary Focus)
Assist with preparing dealer order forms and ensuring accuracy in machine specifications and options.
Collaborate with the Sales Team to deliver cost-effective technical solutions tailored to customer needs.
Support the generation of technical proposals, sales specifications, and marketing materials when required.
Liaise with internal departments, including Engineering, Aftermarkets, and Factory Personnel, to align costs and project goals.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with stakeholders, including the Sales Team, Engineering, and suppliers, to develop accurate cost assessments and ensure smooth project delivery.
Participate in meetings with suppliers, customers, and trade events as needed.
General Engineering Support
Support concept designs for new or modified equipment to aid cost validation.
Assist with 3D modelling, detailing, and layouts where necessary to support sales efforts.
Travel Requirements
Willing to travel worldwide by air and auto as required (+/- 8 weeks per year), have valid driver’s license, be able to obtain a passport and must have financial means to travel when required. Approved expenses will be reimbursed.
What you will need
Required criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Mining, Geological or Industrial Engineering required.
- Strong understanding of costing processes, particularly for mechanical equipment and engineering projects.
- Experience with material estimation, including steel and purchased parts.
- Proficiency in 3D modelling (preferably SolidWorks) and 2D AutoCAD.
- Good interpersonal relations skills when dealing with management, sales, dealers, customers, and inter-company personnel.
- Communicate effectively orally and written.
- Ability to manage stressful situations including equipment and/or process problem resolution with customers, dealer personnel, etc.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Desired criteria
- Knowledge of hydraulics, electrics, or mechanical systems is an advantage.
- Experience in preparing technical drawings or layouts.
- Familiarity with PhotoView 360 or similar rendering tools.
