Macklin Care Homes is excited to announce the opening of a new Mental Health Residential Facility at Our Lady’s Care Home, Belfast. The facility will aim to provide mental health services including mental health assessment, treatment, and therapeutic work.

As a result, we are actively recruiting a Senior Support Worker. The successful candidate will use their compassion and clinical experience to help deliver exceptional levels of resident care to individuals who have a variety of mental health conditions.

This role is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the mental health field while working in a supportive and dynamic team.

About the role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate positively with residents who may present challenges.

  • Develop and maintain clear, comprehensive, and resident-accessible care plans.

  • Encourage and support residents in managing their medication effectively.

  • Assist residents in building their skills and fostering independence.

  • Help residents with daily living tasks, including personal care, shopping, and household responsibilities.

  • Assist in scheduling and accompanying residents to medical and personal appointments.

  • Maintain accurate manual and electronic documentation.

  • Ensure adherence to house rules to maintain a safe and secure environment.

  • Work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.

  • Maintain open and positive communication with colleagues, residents, and visitors.

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous experience in a mental health environment with the necessary level of care.

  • Familiarity with The Mental Health Order (1986) and its practical application.

  • Understanding current approaches to mental health care and treatment.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Strong ability to manage challenging situations constructively.

  • Dedication to fostering a supportive and therapeutic environment for residents.

  • A proactive approach to promoting resident independence and well-being.

What you will need

Required criteria

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working within a Mental Health Unit/Facility.
  • Empathetic, patient and compassionate in nature.
  • Understanding of types of mental health illnesses and the level of care residents will require.
  • Must be in good general medical health.

Desired criteria

  • Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
  • Current and/or previous experience in a Mental Health support role within a Care Home environment.
