Location: Port of Leith, with travel to other Scottish ports
Compensation: £40,114 | call-out allowance - £3,352 | shift allowance - £5,444

About the role
Reporting to the Manager – Marine Craft, you will be responsible for providing engineering services to support the marine fleet, ensuring maintenance and repair tasks are completed promptly and efficiently while strictly adhering to safety protocols. Additionally, you will serve as Relief Pilot Boat Crew, stepping in to provide coverage during absences or leave as needed.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Carry out planned maintenance programmes for each vessel. A major part of the role is fault diagnostics, for all marine plant equipment from marine engine, compressors and pumps
Deal with any problems quickly, efficiently and safely to ensure that the work is completed as required
Ensure that all equipment is maintained to the standard required by MCA/Class and that all necessary records/documentation is up to date
Ensure the required tools, spares & materials are available at the Tug base and Granton Pilot Station for scheduled work
Maintain effective and regular communication with all crews and service providers so that they are aware of the status of job repairs. Deal with any problems quickly and escalate any difficulties to the Manager – Marine Craft
Provide a prompt response to marine engineering issues during normal working hours and on call outs, out with normal hours. Initiate action as required to reduce any impact on the operation
Prepare and maintain plant maintenance records, enabling accurate information about attendance, work tasks, etc
Assist the Manager – Marine Craft to investigate any accidents, incidents and breakdowns and take the necessary action to rectify this
What are we looking for?
While a background in marine engineering would be highly beneficial, we also welcome applicants with experience in related fields, such as working with heavy plant machinery, mechanical maintenance, or mechanical fitter roles.
The ideal candidate will bring a flexible, proactive, and hands-on approach, ready to meet the dynamic demands of a 24/7/365 operation.
Skills and experience required:
Full Power Boat qualification is desirable to support Pilot Vessel crews, however training will be arranged if required
Plant Engineering/Small Vessel Engineering/STCW Marine Engineering Experience
Basic Electrical Experience of 24V & 415V Systems
Relevant experience of slipping Pilot Boats (or equivalent) including removal of shafts and preparation of boat for survey by MCA or other statutory body
Practical experience of small boat operations, propeller removal and replacement, cutlass bearing replacement, re-packing of stuffing boxes, engine removals and engine re-builds
Full UK Driving Licence
