About the Role:

Conducting a range of duties to ensure that the person-centered care and well being of residents is met satisfactorily, through provision of training and supervision of clinical staff.

The Training Manager must support the principle that the resident comes first at all times and approach their work with the flexibility and enthusiasm required to make this principle a reality for every resident to the greatest extent possible.

Reporting to: Director of Nursing

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • The Training and Development Manager is responsible for the delivery of training to care staff thereby ensuring maintenance of high standard of resident/patient care which is achieved through professional education and development of all care staff.

  • The Training and Development Manager acts as an expert practitioner, managing resources and facilitating communication.

  • Work with the Director of Nursing and the Clinical Management Team to develop training programs to ensure staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to carry our their roles effectively.

  • Ensure a person-centered approach is central to all training delivered to enhance care, enhance clinical effectiveness, and optimise the resident experience.

  • Determine training and development needs through job analysis, appraisal schemes, and regular consultation with the Director of Nursing, in accordance with statutory obligations, and in response to Clinical Audit mechanisms.

  • Create and expand training and development programs based on the needs of the home, resident and individual staff members.

  • Encourage a professional care practice environment that is consistent with the Silverstream mission, vision and values.

  • Organise and ensure effective induction programmes are in place for new staff and monitor effectiveness.

  • Monitor and review the progress of new staff/trainees through regular induction meetings and feedback from line manager.

  • Devise individual supportive learning plans in response to any learning or performance deficiencies.

  • Communicate directly with staff and others and ensure timely reporting and follow up of learner concerns or other significant issues.

  • Create and/or deliver a range of training using classroom, practical and online training.

  • Manage the delivery of training and development programmes ensuring that all statutory training requirements are met i.e HIQA, Health and Safety and EHO.

  • Evaluate training and development programmes.

  • Assist with the maintenance of training records for staff and assist with notifications for refresher training, utilising HR locker and the homes training Matrix.

  • In collaboration with the Clinical team assist with modifications of training as needed to adapt to changes in the workplace.

  • Assist line manager and trainers in solving specific training problems, either one-on-one or in groups.

  • Keep up to date with developments in training by reading relevant journals, going to meetings and attending relevant courses.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Candidates must be registered with An Bord Altranais.

  • Strong clinical and communication skills are required.

  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently.

  • knowledge of HIQA regulations and standards is essential.

  • QQI Level 6 Train the Trainer Qualification.

  • Proven clinical and professional management ability, clinical audit, and excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • The Training and Development Manager must be registered in the general division of the Register of Nurses maintained by An Bord Altranais.
  • Must have a QQI Level 6 in Train the Trainer

Desired criteria

  • A recognised post-registration nursing course in gerontology would be a distinct advantage.
