Dementia Support Worker - Day Service

Dementia Support Worker - Guild Care is seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Dementia Support Worker to join our team at Haviland House Day Services. If you are passionate about enabling people living with dementia to lead fulfilling and secure lives, we would love to hear from you.

  • Location: Haviland House Day Service, Goring By Sea

  • Contracted Hours: 7 hours per week

  • Salary: £12 per hour

  • Working Hours: Every Wednesday & Bank, 9am-4pm

About the role:

The Dementia Support Worker will provide support and befriending to older people, helping to enhance their health and wellbeing, reduce loneliness, and promote independence. Working in a team-oriented environment, you will facilitate engaging activities, outings, and events, ensuring a safe, stimulating, and person-centred approach.

About the role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise individuals or small groups in meaningful activities and outings to foster social engagement and reduce isolation.

  • Encourage and motivate individuals to participate in activities, while respecting their preferences.

  • Maintain compliance with relevant legislation and safeguarding standards when working with vulnerable adults.

  • Administer prescribed medication as required (training provided).

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with service users, relatives, carers, and professionals to deliver high-quality care.

  • Support transport arrangements by driving a minibus (if qualified) or assisting with collections and drop-offs.

  • Ensure the service meets regulatory requirements and assist with promoting the service to potential users.

  • Maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment.

  • Adhere to Guild Care's policies, procedures, and BELIEF values.

What we are looking for:

Essential:

  • Experience and passion for supporting people living with dementia.

  • A strong understanding of the needs of people with dementia.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse individuals.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends.

  • A satisfactory DBS check.

Desirable:

  • Experience in facilitating activities within a day service or community setting.

  • Knowledge of local and national dementia support organisations.

  • Previous experience in care, voluntary sectors, or day service settings.

  • Ability to drive a minibus or administer medication (training provided).

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ, QCF).

Desired criteria

  • QCF Qualification (NVQ Level 2) in health and social care or an equivalent qualification, including relevant dementia care units or a commitment to work toward it.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of people with dementia, who need care and support.
  • Understanding of mental capacity and deprivation of liberty safeguards
  • Understanding of the Care Act 2014 and CQC regulatory framework
