The Home
Ardmaine Care Home is warm and loving, located near the centre of the city of Newry. It has two units - General Nursing and Dementia Nursing. Ardmaine Care Home provides care for older people as well as those with Dementia, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, Cancer, End of Life Care, Respite, Stroke, Epilepsy, Visual Impairment and Challenging Behaviours.
The Role - bank hours only
You will help provide nutritious well-balanced meals, contributing to the overall wellbeing of our residents, as well as meeting their individual dietary requirements. The Assistant Cook works closely with the Chef, supporting with menu planning, meal preparation, kitchen management and ensuring compliance with the necessary regulatory standards.
About the role
Main Responsibilities
Assist the Cook/ Chef in preparing and cooking meals according to dietary requirements and meal plans.
Help with food preparation, including chopping, mixing, and assembling ingredients.
Ensure that all food is prepared to high standards of quality, presentation, and hygiene.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and equipment.
Monitor food stocks, assist with ordering supplies, and ensure proper food storage and stock rotation.
Support in meal service and ensure residents' needs are met with kindness and care.
Comply with food hygiene and health and safety regulations at all times.

What you will need
Required criteria
- Right to Work in the UK
- Minimum 1 years’ experience working as an Assistant Cook or similar role in a food preparation/ kitchen setting.
- Hold a basic Food Safety and Hygiene certificate.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic understanding of the dietary needs, nutritional and cultural requirements of elderly people.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Have basic knowledge of HACCP, COSHH and Health and Safety.
Desired criteria
- Experience gained in a care home or similar healthcare environment desirable.
- NVQ Level 2 in a relevant subject is desirable.
