About the role
Starting salary during training (approximately 4 weeks): £28,624
On completion of training: £32,924 + £8,396 unsocial working allowance
Hours: 12 hour shifts as part of a 24/7 rostered shift pattern, averaging 38.5 hours per week.
Overtime: There are also plenty of opportunities to boost your earnings potential with flexible overtime.
We are seeking to strengthen our skilled Port Operations team by recruiting an enthusiastic and committed Port Operator. Plant driving is a major part of the role, and you will be trained to drive port plant equivalent including straddle carriers, forklifts and tugs.
It is important to us that you are a good team member, who is also able to work independently. You will need to think critically, analyse situations and develop practical solutions to overcome obstacles, minimise delays and maintain operational efficiency.
Our working environment comprises warehouses, quaysides or the hold of ships. Your main duties will be loading and discharging ships and a range of other tasks associated with cargo handling, warehousing and distribution.
The Port environment is fast paced and busy so you must also be able to demonstrate a really good understanding of the importance of Health and Safety in a heavily industrialised setting.
What are we looking for?
Plant driving experience and a valid forklift truck licence.
Good numeracy and basic IT skills.
Previous shift working experience would be preferred as weekend and nightshift working is required.
You must be available to work regular overtime to align with the dynamic operational requirements of our business.
A full driving licence, valid in the UK and you will also need to meet Group 2 driver medical fitness standards.
Right to work in the UK.
