JOB PURPOSE

To work as a member of a residential team to create a safe and caring environment which meets the individual and  group needs of the children who live there. Residential Care Workers must practice in accordance with relevant childcare legislation, national standards, and Ashdale Care (Ireland) Ltd Policies and Procedures.

About the role

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

·        Cultivate genuine and caring connections with the young people in the home, and always interact with the young people and their families with dignity and respect, promoting a culture of unconditional positive regard. 

·        Contribute to the promotion, creation, and maintenance of a welcoming, safe, caring, stable and therapeutic environment. 

·        Promote the rights and responsibilities of each young person within the home whilst promoting physical, emotional, social, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual welfare of each young person in care. 

·        Ensure that young people are not subjected to any forms of abuse and report any concerns according to policy and procedures

·        Supervise young people on outings from the home including medical appointments, family time and undertake various aspects of daily activities such as cooking and cleaning as part of positive role modelling.

·        Actively participate in working within the Model of care and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention

·        To be able to deal with challenging behaviours when needed and provide emotional support at times of difficulty or stress.

·        Recognise young people as experts through experience, promoting their participation in care planning, placement planning, decision-making and service delivery. 

·        Develop an understanding of how previous life experiences and trauma impact on young people and incorporate this into their practice with support of bespoke training from the Therapeutic Support Team including Developmental Trauma and Attachment. 

·        Work in partnership with the young person’s support network including Social Workers, Teachers, Guardian ad Litems, and family members when necessary. 

·        Actively work as part of a team and to communicate effectively with colleagues, attend and participate in daily handovers, team meetings, Child in Care Reviews, Looked After Review meetings, Placement Planning meetings and other meetings when required. 

·        Through supervision, give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers.

·        Be aware of childcare plans for all young people and providing support for colleagues by maintaining consistency in the execution of those plans.

·        Complete and maintain precise, accurate and up to date records and reports for each individual young person including those required to comply with statutory requirements and Ashdale Care policies and procedures.  

·        Take on key worker duties including maintaining updated files for the young people, ensuring all necessary information is documented, and serving as a primary point of contact for professionals/family/young person. 

·        To work a Rota devised by the home manager, which involves sleep-in duties. 

·        Responsibilities include supervising the handling of daily petty cash, accurately documenting receipts, securely storing money and valuable items. Staff also need to adhere to Health and Safety regulations, including Fire Safety protocols. 

·        To contribute to the development of positive links with the community and other agencies.

This role involves shift work. Shifts are as follows: 

Support shifts: 8- 10 hour shift e.g. 10am-8pm or 12pm-10am. 

18 hour Sleep in shift (Late Early, 18hr): Start at 10am-12am. Sleep in the home 12am-7am. Finishing the  shift 7am-11am. Paid a separate hourly rate for the sleep in hours in addition to your contracted hours.

  • Ability to work in regulated activity, care for and supervise young persons
  • Full clean driving license
  • Flexible – willing and able to adapt to changing circumstances, shift patterns and expectations
  • Level 7 qualification (degree) or above in one of the following: Social Care Social Work Health and Social Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy Youth & Community Teaching Nursing Social Science Addiction Counselling Counselling / Psychotherapy Family Support Disability Studies Applied Behavioural Analysis Early Years Care

  • Level 8 qualification (Honours degree) or above in Psychology
