Junior Security Coordinator - Africa Region

We are recruiting a Junior Security Coordinator to join our Global Security Operations Centre based in Esher.

At the centre of our security services is the Global Security Operations Centre (GSOC). Operating 24/7/365, the GSOC is staffed by a specialist team of security professionals and crisis management experts who are highly practiced in the risks associated with global travel. They provide clients with timely, relevant, actionable intelligence and advice using cutting-edge technology to provide location specific insight and monitoring of incidents.

We work with our clients to help evaluate the security risks their global operations face, providing advice on minimising those risks and guiding them through the process of building a safer and more secure environment for their employees, project, personnel and site facilities.  Providing access to highly specialist consultants with local knowledge and experience of challenging environments, we help clients develop risk mitigation plans appropriate to the level of risk acceptable to them.

Our ideal candidate:

Skills

  • Knowledge of political and security issues, with a preferred expertise in Africa.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience in writing high-quality security information for an English-speaking audience. Preference will be given to candidates with working proficiency in a second regional language.

  • Willingness to work outside of normal duty hours, in support of security operations.

 

Required Experience

  • Preferred one year proven operational experience in security and/or international relations: military, government/civil service, police, NGOs, corporate security.

  • Experience of risk management, security planning, logistics, client facing roles and crisis management.

  • Experience of operating in an international context (postings, exchanges or employment within a foreign multinational company).

  • Relevant undergraduate qualification in International Relations, Security Studies or other regional specialism.

 

Travel/Hours

  • Travel dependent on business needs.

  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, in support of operations.

 

Character

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of working in a small team environment.

  • Well organised with demonstrated ability to multitask and work to deadlines.

  • Honest individual who is loyal to their team and enthused by the opportunity to be part of a frontier business. 

  • Ability to remain calm and resilient under pressure and follow protocol with a high attention to detail.

About the role

Key activities/main duties:

 The JSC supports the EMEA GSOC in ensuring the delivery of consistent, high-quality operational security services.

 Accountabilities include (but not limited to):

 Security Operations

  • Support the ‘security desk’ and handle security advice and assistance cases (telephone/email) to travellers, expatriates and corporate security/risk managers.

  • Ensure clients’ cases are managed in a timely and professional manner; capture relevant notes and documents in accordance with business rules.

  • Support security operations team during security escalations across all regions and ensure strict adherence to escalation protocol.

  • Provide ‘Critical Watch’ service to subscribed clients affected by Level 4 incidents. Offer telephonic and email advice, and escalation support where required.   

  • Become familiarised with client-specific protocols, their operational footprint and the ‘cheat sheets’.

  • Participate in an Incident Management Team (IMT) during escalated situations, evacuations and security operations. Work outside of regular hours, until the standing down of the IMT.

  • Assist in the development of security operational capability across the five regions, with an Africa focus. Take responsibility for asset due diligence across all regions.

  • Provide operational and logistical support to internal staff and contractors engaged on assistance or consultancy tasks on Healix’s behalf.

 

Risk Intelligence

  • Cover Global Incident Monitoring on weekend shifts and during the week where support is required by the Africa Global Threat Analyst (GTA).

  • Collaborate with the Africa GTA and author weekly forecasts and ad-hoc complex reports for distribution to platform subscribers.

 

Colleague & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with Global Threat Analysts (GTAs) to maintain awareness of the regional security situation and contribute operational advice to security and risk intelligence output produced by the Global Intelligence Centre (GIC) when required.

  • Engage with wider Healix stakeholders including, but not exclusive to, Healix medical, projects and business development colleagues
