ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN

Responsible to: Maintenance Manager

Main Purpose: To provide engineering resource in a challenging fast paced manufacturing environment. Carrying out planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, refurbishment, installation, improvements and modification or upgrade to plant and services in order to minimize downtime and maintain the equipment in the best possible condition. To strive towards continuous improvement of all machinery and equipment in order to effectively reduce engineering downtime, thereby maintaining plant availability, efficiency, productivity and product quality at all times. To carry out all engineering work to high engineering, quality, safety standards.

About the role

Main tasks and duties

  • Report to and adhere to instructions from Maintenance Manager and Senior Maintenance Technicians;

  • Through good housekeeping procedures ensure that a safe and clean working environment is kept at all times;

  • Ensure that the Health & Safety Policy of the company is operated to ensure compliance with statutory regulations as they change from time to time;

  • Ensure all tasks undertaken are completed in accordance with the appropriate and necessary regulations e.g. IEE, Electricity at Work Regulations, HASAW Regulations and PUWER Regulations;

  • Managing electrical repairs and breakdowns whilst avoiding downtime and ensuring minimal disruption;

  • Fault finding and continuous improvement site wide focusing on critical plant and addressing the root cause of failures;

  • Initiating and modifying electrical designs; conducting diagnosis, repairing and testing of malfunctioning equipment;

  • Electrical installation of new plant and machinery;

  • Carrying out planned and preventative maintenance on plant and machinery;

  • Use of predictive maintenance techniques to support a LEAN manufacturing philosophy;

  • Operate under the company’s TPM framework to help improve the reliability and efficiencies of equipment and machinery;

  • Maintain equipment maintenance records, ensuring accurate allocation of work hours;

  • Participate in equipment reliability analysis to identify: trends, repetitive failures, opportunities for improvement in reliability and effectiveness;

  • Complete maintenance improvement projects to support departmental installation, utility reduction and equipment reliability objectives;

  • Act as a member of the maintenance team on flexible shift patterns providing relevant information as the basis to future planning;

  • Support the training of new personnel, including employees enrolled in the apprenticeship program;

  • Support department sourcing of spares;

  • Liaise with equipment suppliers as necessary in relation to equipment installation, reliability and fault diagnosis issues;

  • Undertake mechanical tasks in support of the role to a level within your capability and / or in accordance with training provided.

Communications

  • Ensure communications are maintained at the highest possible level between management and the workforce and keep your supervisor advised of impending situations which could develop into more serious problems;

  • Develop mutual respect with employees, by ensuring that all dealings are objective and impartial;

  • Liaise with contractors and equipment suppliers as necessary.

General

  • Ensure compliance with the company's Equal Opportunities Policy;

  • Any other duties as may reasonably be required.

What you will need

Required criteria

  • Have completed a recognised apprenticeship as an electrical or mechatronic technician, ideally to HNC or equivalent level
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ post apprenticeship experience in a manufacturing background
  • Have experience in fault diagnosis in electrical systems and equipment
  • Have experience with motor control systems, process temperature controls, hydraulics, pneumatics and PLC/ PC control systems
  • Ideally have experience of equipment installation
