Polymer Apprentice

As a polymer apprentice you will undergo a two-year training programme with SERC to become a skilled trainee technical operative. This role involves learning to operate and maintain polymer production machinery, ensuring product quality and adhering to safety standards. Apprentices will receive comprehensive training in Polymer technology, materials handling and processing techniques,  preparing them for a successful career in the industry.

 In this role you will be at Brett Martin 4 days per week and complete one day in SERC’s Lisburn campus where you will earn a Pearson BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and a PAAVQ-SET Level 3 Certificate in Polymer Operations upon successful completion.

About the role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in ensuring that production materials are supplied to machines according to specified requirements.

  • Learn to set up, start up, and control production machinery and ancillary equipment under supervision.

  • Understand and maintain the production process in accordance with required quality standards.

  • Support in ensuring that finished products meet predetermined standards and specifications.

  • Learn to deal with non-conforming materials, processes, and products following company procedures.

  • Adhere to and promote high standards of safety, housekeeping, and cleanliness in the workplace.

  • Participate in safety training and implement safety practices learned.

  • Learn to complete output and product output sheets accurately and document any issues relating to scrap or downtime.

  • Engage actively in all training modules including Health & Safety in the Workplace, Polymer Technology, Plastics Materials, Plastics Processing, and Polymer Process Engineering.

  • Participate in continuous learning and improvement activities to gain comprehensive knowledge of polymer processes and procedures.

  • 5 GCSE grade A-C or equivalent (predictive grades if applying prior to getting your results)
