Asphalt Research and Development Technician
Applications are invited for the position of Research & Development Technician, to be based in the Asphalt Research and Development Laboratory, Belgard.
The person appointed will report to the Asphalt Technical Manager and will be required to fulfil a range of duties in a busy technical role.
Key areas of responsibility:
Testing of materials including aggregates, bitumen and additives
Asphalt mix design & optimisation
Testing of site cores
Optimising the use of Reclaimed Asphalt
Plant and Mix Review
Co-ordination of mix designs with Operations and Contracts teams
Asphalt Innovation and product development
Implementing Improvements
Compliance with national specifications and best practice.
Other duties as requested by the Asphalt Technical Manager.
· Assist with internal and external audits.
Keeping accurate records, updating database and maintaining QC equipment.
Conducting site visits to address complaints
Supervision of concrete pours
· Additional duties as required.

Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
An ability to operate to strict timelines/deadlines.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of Asphalt materials would be an advantage.
Laboratory experience is required
Full drivers’ licence
Third level qualification in Engineering, Science or related discipline would be an advantage
Desired criteria
- • Recent or in final year of relevant qualification/ course would be an advantage.
