(OTH) Cook Manager - Corkey House
Hours: 33.25 hours (28.5hrs week 1 & 38hrs week 2)Responsible to: Service Manager
Lead Our Kitchen Team as a Cook Manager
Are you an experienced cook with a passion for preparing nutritious meals in a caring environment? Corkey House is seeking a Cook Manager to lead meal planning and preparation, ensuring residents receive high-quality, nutritious food in line with their dietary needs.
About Us
The Council for Social Witness (Older People Services) is part of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, providing care within a Christian-based ethos.
Corkey House is one of 6 homes for older people run by the Council for Social Witness. The purpose-built home accommodates 35 residents who have a variety of physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs and varying levels of dependency.
The Home operates a No Smoking Policy.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
Preparing, cooking, and baking meals to meet residents’ dietary requirements
Managing kitchen stock levels, ordering supplies, and ensuring food quality standards
Preparing snacks such as tea, sandwiches, and suppers
Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen areas, including floors, work surfaces, shelves, and appliances
Washing dishes and ensuring proper waste disposal
Leading kitchen operations and supporting the catering team
Attending staff meetings and training sessions
Carrying out any other reasonable duties to support residents’ well-being
This role involves some physical work, including moving kitchen equipment and furniture.
What We Are Looking For
Experience in a catering or kitchen management role, ideally in a care setting
Understanding of dietary requirements for older people
Ability to work independently and manage kitchen operations efficiently
A compassionate approach and a commitment to supporting residents' well-being
Integrity, honesty, patience, and strong teamworking skills
A willingness to uphold the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland

What you will need
Required criteria
- Evidence an understanding of and respect for the needs of older people
- Awareness of health and safety practices within a catering and residential environment
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
- Experience of catering outside a domestic setting
- Willingness to work additional hours to meet the requirements of the Home
- Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland
Desired criteria
- Experience of working with older people
- NVQ2 in Food Preparation & Cooking (or equivalent qualification)
