Macklin Care Homes are excited to announce the opening of a new Mental Health Residential Facility at Our Lady’s Care Home, Belfast. The facility will aim to provide mental health services including mental health assessment, treatment, and therapeutic work.

As a result, we are actively recruiting for an experienced Activities Co-ordinator who will use their compassion and creative skills to engage and support the lives of people who have a variety of mental health conditions.

With no two days the same, you will enjoy a wide range of varied responsibilities, from creating a stimulating and developing activity programme to enhance the quality of life for each resident within the Mental Health facility.

About the role

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Experience of producing/developing ongoing programmes of events (in-house entertainment, outings, and group activities) which are both mentally and physically stimulating and of interest to residents.

  • Ability to consult effectively with the Residential Manager, staff members and residents when planning and co-ordinating leisure and recreational activities.

  • Review and obtain the Residential Manager’s approval of all external suppliers of leisure and recreation services and entertainers prior to engaging them.

  • Facilitate regular feedback from residents as to activities and hobbies they enjoy and where possible incorporate them into the overall activity programme.

  • Accurately maintain documentation both manually and electronically of leisure and recreation within the service.

  • Where residents may not wish to participate in group activities, maintain other activities that can be completed on a one-to-one basis to meet the resident’s needs.

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with a challenging resident group in a positive manner.

  • Ensure house rules are kept and adhered to, as well as providing a safe and respectful environment.

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, residents, and visitors, working independently and as part of a team.

  • Actively engage with the community to recruit volunteers, including support and supervision of volunteers.

  • Possess a full UK driving license to transport and support residents with daily tasks in people carrier provided by the Macklin Group.

What you will need

Required criteria

  • Must have a good command of written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work set hours, flexible to meet the needs of the organisation.

Desired criteria

  • An understanding of current approaches to mental health practice and an awareness of local services available.
  • Experience working within a mental health environment and understanding the level of engagement required by residents to support them on their recovery journey.
  • Current and/or previous experience in a Mental Health activities role within a Care Home environment.
