About the role

Due to significant success and continued growth, we are recruiting for a professional Master to join our team in Scotland to operate ASD/ATD/ Voith Harbour Tugs. Whilst business needs may change the base location of the Tugs, we are looking for individuals who can readily travel to our Forth, Leith or other Scotland sites.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Commanding and operating the vessel i.a.w. Regulations and this SMS

  • Conducting onboard annual reviews of the SMS and proposing new procedures, improvements and/or amendments when appropriate

  • Ensuring that all relevant Rules, Regulations, Codes, Guidelines and Publications are held onboard, are in-date and are handled i.a.w. the Controlled Document Procedure

  • Ensuring that the vessel is manned i.a.w. Flag regulations

  • Ensuring that all new crew members carry out the familiarisation, induction and OJT process

  • Drafting and testing contingency plans for all conceivable onboard emergencies

  • Conducting inspections i.a.w the Maintenance Management System (MMS)

  • Conducting safety drills i.a.w. SMS and Flag regulations

  • Ensuring that routine maintenance is carried out i.a.w. MMS

  • Investigating all non-conformities, near misses, dangerous occurrences and accidents and reporting them to the Company

  • Making monthly reports as required by SMS, MMS and as required for the routine management of the vessel and crew

  • Ensuring that the Deck Logbook is kept to a satisfactory standard

  • Ensuring that the vessel is kept in compliance with its waste management system

  • Chairing safety meetings and recording action minutes

  • Ensuring the Control of Work system is operating effectively as the accountable person with overall responsibility

  • Conducting weekly accommodation inspection and recording such in the Deck Log Book

  • Identifying training needs of crewmembers

  • Conducting or assisting in periodical appraisals for crewmembers, especially as they relate to training needs analysis

  • Monitoring the validity of all Flag and relevant Class Certificates

  • Keeping the Company informed of any important, urgent or controversial issue

  • Monitoring crew morale and exercising leadership in resolving any personnel problem

  • Building on the principles of teamwork

  • Dealing with disciplinary or grievance matters i.a.w. SMS

  • Conducting an environmental audit and SOPEP review at least annually which is aimed at identifying efficiencies in consumptions and waste and reducing the vessel’s environmental footprint

  • Issuing Master’s standing Orders as deemed necessary

What are we looking for:

  • Experienced Tug Master with minimum certification Master 500gt

  • Good Harbour Towage experience is essential

  • Good leadership, delegation and teamwork skills

  • Exceptional Health, Safety & Risk Management awareness

  • Must have full UK working rights
