About the role

Due to significant success and continued growth, we are recruiting for a professional Chief Engineer to join our team in Scotland to operate onboard ASD/ATD/ Voith Harbour Tugs. Whilst business needs may change the base location of the Tugs, we are looking for individuals who can readily travel to our Forth, Leith or other Scotland sites.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the Engineering Department i.a.w. regulations and the Company’s SMS QA

  • Reviewing SMS QA and proposing new procedures and or amendments

  • Executing the MMS for all machinery, equipment and spaces within his charge paying particular attention to all safety and anti-pollution equipment

  • Advising and assisting the Master and other HODS on all technical matters, including the MMS

  • Advising the Master and DPA on any Operational Defect as it arises and recommending remedial action on an urgent basis

  • Advising the Master and Company on suggested work to be conducted in Dry-dock and preparing technical details of such work

  • Keeping records of all routine and un-scheduled maintenance and repairs

  • Monitoring the validity of Class and other statutory technical certificates and advising on the survey schedule

  • Acting as custodian for all technical manuals and plans

  • Conducting ship inspections as agreed with the Master

  • Assisting the DPA with vessel audits

  • Assisting the Masters with all investigations including non-conformities

  • Submitting Month-end reports as required by SMS QA

  • Ensuring that the Engine Logbook and Oil Record book are kept to a satisfactory standard

  • Submitting general technical and incident reports

  • Monitoring new crew members’ familiarisation process

  • Assisting the Master with any disciplinary action required within the department

  • Advising members of the department on their training needs

  • Working with other HODS on teamwork, especially between departments

  • Ordering of stores and spare parts iaw Part 4 of SMS

  • Maintaining stores lists/inventory

What we are looking for:

  • Experienced Chief Engineer with minimum certification Chief Engineer <9000kw

  • Ability to thoroughly analyse all engineering situations and to submit detailed and accurate written and oral reports

  • Ability to diagnose and rectify faults for all machinery and equipment

  • Must have full UK working rights
