Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Placement Student
Crossland wishes to recruit a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Placement Student to join our highly successful existing HSEQ Team.
At Crossland, we understand that having experience of the working world during your university degree provides key insight into the application of your learning as well as developing different skills. Crossland has an exciting 12(+) month placement where you are given an opportunity to work as part of the HSEQ team where you will be working on real projects making a difference in both your team and the company as a whole. The successful candidates will receive on the job training and take part in a structured training & development program designed to give you the skills and competencies required for your future career post-university.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong attention to detail and will be experienced in working on recurring weekly/monthly tasks to strict deadlines.
Crossland Tankers has grown from a tanker repairs and servicing company, providing maintenance services to local bulk liquid haulage companies into one of the largest tanker manufacturers within the UK and Ireland.

The Ideal Person
Working toward a Degree in Health and Safety or relevant industrial qualification which includes an industrial placement year
Minimum of 5 GCSE’s including Maths and English Grades A*-C
Excellent attention to detail and a high numerical understanding
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Team player with ‘roll up your sleeves’ attitude.
Capacity to work independently with limited supervision
Proficient with MS Office suite – advanced skills with MS Excel
Excellent organisational skills

About the role
Key Responsibilities delivered along with the HSEQ manager on site:
Preparing all required documents.
Scheduling and controlling of calibration, maintenance and repair of plant and equipment, training, and other requirements.
Obtaining relevant records from all persons who provide products and/ or services to the Company.
Preparing and maintaining Company registers.
Developing and communicating information and instruction to employees.
Site inspections.
Identifying and reporting non-conformances.
Promoting a positive HSE culture.
Ensuring Company/ employee compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
Conducting/ reviewing risk assessments/ COSHH risk assessments and safe systems of work for all relevant business areas.
Communicating risk assessments/ safe systems of work with all relevant persons.
Supervising subcontractors on site (ensuring works are carried out as per obtained RAMS).
Monitoring emergency preparedness and control.
Monitoring environmental aspects and impacts and promoting environmental awareness and protection.
Monitoring waste generation on site and engaging/ supervising waste carriers.
Coordinating and supervising health surveillance for all staff.
Incident (accident/ near miss) investigations and reporting.
Implementing preventative/ corrective actions/ risk control measures.
Any other duties as required.

When we first started out in business back in 1988, we were originally a tanker repair and servicing company, providing maintenance services to local bulk liquid haulage companies. However, although our resources were modest when we started out, our passion, determination, and ambition to succeed were always there in abundance. As a result, by the mid-1990s – building on our extensive repairs experience – we began to manufacture our very own tankers for the UK road industry at our factory in Swatragh, trading under the name Crossland Tankers Ltd.
From here, our business grew year-on-year, culminating in the purchase of Massey tankers, in 2003. This not only gave us access to a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, it also gave us a base within the UK mainland. Today, we employ over 130 people across our two manufacturing sites at Swatragh (Northern Ireland) and Burnley (Lancashire) and are one of the leading tanker manufacturers in the UK and Ireland. We are proud to have a wide range of customers in Ireland, the UK, the EU, and the Middle East.
