Depot Manager, Cumbernauld
Responsible for all internal logistics and operational activity relating to the site functions of the company, including the depot's own vehicle fleet and drivers, all warehouse logistics and distribution areas, budgetary control, health and safety, depot KPI's, staff training and liaising with all external personnel to deliver the business plan and objectives.
About this role
Accountability
To assist the Sales Director and Northern Regional sales teams to achieve company objectives.
To motivate and drive the Internal office and site functions and assess their performance.
Management of the site operations, including the vehicle fleet and drivers, to achieve all site KPIs to agreed targets, especially health & safety, housekeeping, stock control and vehicle utilisation.
Ensure efficient planning and delivery accuracy, maintaining OTIF across P&D and AP businesses.
Manage site productivity, site security, quality and customer service to meet overall company objectives.
Develop sound business relationships with our customers.
Manage customer enquiries and liaise with all company departments as necessary to satisfy customer needs.
Manage customer care and relationship programme.
Control recruitment and justify growth of the site to meet current and future demands.
Prepare and implement business plan to ensure the company has a clear plan for future growth in line with improved customer service.
Provide analysis as required by Management.
Control site stock levels and accuracy.
To update and monitor the CRM system as required.
Ensure compliance with all laid down Company Procedures and Systems in particular, Health & Safety, ISO 9002 Quality Standard, Investors in People, Legal requirements, Site Discipline, Stock Control and Operational Effectiveness.
To develop and manage all personnel areas including recruitment, training and discipline effectively.
To have effective liaison with all colleagues, workforce, visitors, and customers, to promote and improve service and develop good working relationships.
To be an effective member of the management teams for the business that Cumbernauld distribute for.
Take responsibility for budgetary control of the depot, managing costs against agreed budgets.
Contribute to, and implement where necessary, the company's Continuous Improvement Programme.
Develop accurate and timely reporting techniques.
Develop and maintain effective logistics and warehouse operation.
Decision Making Authority
Responsible for management of all site based staff at Cumbernauld, including the vehicle fleet and drivers, and all plant and equipment.
General
The Depot Manager may, from time to time, be required to carry out other duties as directed by the Managing Director.
Any other duties as may reasonably be required.
Communications
Ensure communications are maintained at the highest possible level between management and the workforce and keep directors advised of impending situations which could develop into more serious problems;
Ensure staff are kept fully briefed regarding the work and performance required from them and give direction and support to ensure that tasks are completed on time;
Develop mutual respect with employees, by ensuring that all dealings are objective and impartial.

Personnel
Take care to always ensure that there is an adequately trained workforce to meet department requirements;
Ensure that all employees are inducted, trained and validated in all aspects of their positions' requirements, to allow them to perform their functions safely and efficiently;
Manage and motivate staff to ensure that flexible job roles exist for staff and that performance is both efficient and effective;
Deal with day-to-day industrial relations problems ensuring legislation and company procedures are adhered to;
Ensure that company procedures are followed with respect to recruitment and promotion of staff (policy guidelines);
Ensure compliance with the company's Equal Opportunities Policy;
Ensure that the company attendance management policy is implemented.
Personal Health & Safety Awareness

Ensure that you are aware of and comply with all Company regulations, as contained in the Employee Handbook, Work Instructions and other control documentation;
Maintain acceptable standards of behaviour, attendance, timekeeping, etc., as detailed in the Employee Handbook and other control documentation.
Administration
Ensure records are kept up-to-date and accurate for all performance criteria e.g.: -
Operational KPI's
Stock accuracy and PI checks
Vehicle and driver compliance records (e.g. tachograph, licence checks, maintenance/MOT schedules)
Timekeeping / attendance
Training
Ensure that all reports, studies etc. required are accurate, submitted on time and to the required standard.
What you will need
Required criteria
- 5 years recent experience of leading and motivating a team in an administration, logistics, warehouse environment
- A working knowledge of Warehousing/Logistics and Transport systems
- Experience of managing a vehicle fleet and drivers, including compliance with transport legislation
- Good sound IT skills, including Excel and Windows-based software

- Strong organisational background and be prepared to get involved in a “hands on” capacity when required
- Practical experience of budgetary control and operational planning, scheduling and performance monitoring
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and reporting skills
Desired criteria
- Hold a Warehouse/Logistics or Transport qualification
