Maintenance Operative
Ashdale Care is seeking a dedicated and proactive Maintenance Operative to support the management, maintenance and presentation of residential properties and office locations across Ireland. The successful candidate will help maintain safe, welcoming and high-quality environments for children, young people, staff and visitors while supporting the continued growth and development of the organisation.
About this role
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out painting, decorating and refurbishment works as required.
• Undertake first-line maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, fixtures and fittings.
• Perform basic plumbing, carpentry and general maintenance works.
• Complete general handyman duties as directed by the Estates Manager.
• Maintain outdoor areas including grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting, weeding, fencing and grounds maintenance.
• Carry out seasonal maintenance including snow and ice clearance during adverse weather.
• Clean and maintain gutters, fascia boards, eaves, windows and external surfaces.
• Assist with the preparation, furnishing and set-up of new homes, office space and other properties as required.
• Support statutory compliance activities, inspections and remedial works across the property portfolio.
• Liaise with contractors and suppliers while monitoring the quality of completed works.
• Assist with furniture assembly, room moves and minor relocation activities.
• Prepare waste and recycling for collection.
• Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance tasks as required.
• Participate in an out-of-hours emergency response and call-out service.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies and safe working practices.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
All employees are expected to promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in our care. Garda Vetting will be required for the successful candidate.

What you will need
Required criteria
- Minimum two years' experience in a maintenance, facilities, construction or property-related role.
- Valid Safe Pass certification.
- Manual Handling certification.
- Experience carrying out a broad range of building maintenance tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Good IT and computer literacy skills.
- Flexible, practical and proactive approach to work.
- Willingness to travel in support of Ashdale Care's national property portfolio.
- Full clean driving licence held for a minimum of 12 months.
- Access to a vehicle for work purposes.
- Willingness to complete further training, including Health & Safety, Fire Safety, First Aid and Safeguarding.
Desired criteria
- Experience working in residential care, education, healthcare, hospitality or residential property environments.
- Certification or experience in areas such as painting and decorating, plumbing, carpentry, grounds maintenance or facilities management.
- Experience using maintenance management or work-order systems.
