The Home

Orchard Lodge is a wonderfully positioned, purpose-built residential care and nursing home in Armagh. Our home benefits from views of the two local cathedrals and the surrounding city from most of the bedrooms, main lounges and all dining rooms.

Here at Orchard Lodge, we offer professional, person-centred residential and nursing care, as well as specialist care for those living with dementia. We are also registered to provide care for young people with physical disabilities.

All our private, light and spacious bedrooms are fully-furnished, with the benefit of en-suite facilities. Residents are very welcome to bring their own home accessories and furniture, to personalise their space and make it their home. Our facilities are designed to enable residents to be as independent as possible, with the assistance of 24 hour care.

Our kind and compassionate care and nursing teams are fully trained to provide reassuring, compassionate support, companionship and comfort, with the utmost dignity and respect, so that all residents feel safe and secure living in our lovely community.

The Role

You will pride yourself on providing high-quality, person-centred care to our residents, fostering a welcoming environment where residents are treated with respect and dignity, and staff feel valued and supported. As part of our frontline team, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of the Home, assisting with activities of daily living ensuring the wellbeing and comfort of residents. As a Care Assistant, you will also provide emotional support and companionship to residents, fostering meaningful relationships and promoting a sense of compassion; an advocacy for the rights and preferences of our residents.

About this role

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with daily living activities, such as dressing, bathing, eating, and mobility.

  • Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, helping them maintain a good quality of life.

  • Help residents maintain independence where possible, encouraging involvement in activities.

  • Assist with moving and handling residents using appropriate techniques and equipment.

  • Support the nursing and healthcare team by monitoring residents' well-being and reporting any changes in their health or behaviour.

  • Follow care plans tailored to individual residents' needs, ensuring their comfort and safety.

  • Ensure a clean, safe, and homely environment for residents.

Required criteria

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • A good standard of oral and written English.
  • A non-judgemental approach to others.
  • Excellent communication skills with the compassion required to deliver high-quality care to our residents.
  • Respectful to not only residents but the values and beliefs of other team members.

Desired criteria

  • Educated to QCF/ NVQ Level 2 is desirable, but not essential.
  • Previous experience in Health and Social Care preferred, although not essential as full training will be provided.
