JJ Rhatigan & Company is one of Ireland’s leading Building Contractors, with operations throughout Ireland and the UK. We are currently recruiting for a Site Engineer to join our award-winning team in Dublin.

About this role

To provide comprehensive site engineering and technical support to ensure construction works are executed in accordance with design specifications, drawings, quality standards, and programme requirements, while maintaining safe systems of work at all times. 

 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

TECHNICAL & ENGINEERING DUTIES 

Setting Out & Dimensional Control 

  • Take primary responsibility for all setting out operations including establishing primary control networks, TBM (Temporary Benchmark) positions, and maintaining dimensional accuracy throughout the works  

  • Agree procedures with the Senior Engineer for establishing primary control and ongoing monitoring protocols  

  • Implement robust checking systems to continually verify setting out accuracy and provide required assurance  

  • Maintain comprehensive setting out records and as-built dimensional information  

  • Coordinate open space surveys and topographical surveys as required 

 

Design Coordination & Information Management 

  • Review the design and associated programme of works in conjunction with the Senior Engineer and extended construction team  

  • Liaise with the Senior Engineer to ensure the construction team has all required information to construct the works  

  • Prepare and upload weekly RFI (Request for Information) schedules and discuss technical details requiring clarification or potential change with the Senior Engineer  

  • Raise RFIs for review by the Senior Engineer as required, ensuring adequate lead times for design responses  

  • Monitor the programme and proactively identify when design information is required in advance  

  • Immediately flag any late design information that may impact the programme to the Senior Engineer  

  • Ensure design coordination issues are flagged to the Senior Engineer or Design Coordinator without delay  

  • Attend weekly design meetings as required and contribute technical input 

 

Technical Submissions & Documentation 

  • Provide information requested by the Senior Engineer for technical submissions within your scope of works, adhering to required timescales and approval periods to prevent programme impact  

  • Assist in the preparation of method statements in conjunction with the wider team, ensuring buildability and safe systems of work are prioritized  

  • Review all applicable Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) to ensure necessary inspections and hold points are identified during construction  

  • Under direction from the Senior Engineer, learn about temporary works implementation within your scope with a view to taking responsibility as competence develops 

 

BIM & Digital Construction 

  • Ensure BIM is being employed effectively to maximise coordination benefits from a construction perspective  

  • Assist in BIM clash detection resolution and coordinate with the Digital Construction Coordinator  

  • Support the maintenance of the BIM Execution Plan as it relates to site operations  

  • Utilise digital platforms (BIM360, Procore, or equivalent) for quality control, inspections, and documentation  

  • Complete any required BIM training to ensure full competency 

 

QUALITY ASSURANCE & TESTING 

Setting Out & Dimensional Control 

  • Implement and employ the project/company quality system to ensure required quality assurance is adopted for all trades  

  • Request any training required to ensure full compliance with quality procedures  

  • Ensure all subcontractors comply with required quality control standards on site  

  • Establish systems whereby subcontractors offer their works for inspection to a pre-agreed plan  

  • Carry out inspections of the works as required and under direction from the Senior Engineer  

  • Ensure all inspection actions are closed out to the required standard before approval is given for the next stage of works to proceed  

  • Coordinate inspection activities with the Project Manager and team members to integrate with the required sequence of works  

  • Set up and maintain quality check sheets on digital platforms for all relevant trades  

  • Support the establishment and maintenance of quality dashboards 

 

Materials Testing & Sampling 

  • Organise and witness concrete sampling and testing in accordance with project specifications and relevant standards 

  • Coordinate with approved testing laboratories and ensure test results are received and reviewed in a timely manner 

  • Maintain comprehensive testing records including concrete cube results, material certifications, and test certificates 

  • Ensure material compliance documentation is filed appropriately for BCAR and project closeout requirements on digital platforms 

 

Non-Conformance Management 

  • Populate and maintain the NCR (Non-Conformance Report) register throughout construction  

  • Document all non-conformances with photographic evidence and detailed descriptions  

  • Hold responsible persons and subcontractors to account for resolution of non-conformances  

  • Provide detailed weekly reports to the Project Management and Commercial teams on NCR status and resolution progress  

  • Ensure non-conformances are closed out in accordance with approved remedial methods
