Environmental, Health & Safety Officer
The Environmental, Health & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring Walsh Waste & Recycling maintains full compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental and waste-management legislation. The role will lead the company's safety culture, environmental compliance programmes, risk management initiatives and employee engagement activities to ensure a safe, sustainable and legally compliant workplace.
The successful candidate will act as the company's subject matter expert on EHS matters, working closely with management, operational teams, drivers, workshop personnel and regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Compliance
Lead and continuously improve the company's Health & Safety Management System (ISO 45001).
Promote a positive safety culture across all areas of the business.
Ensure compliance with all relevant Health, Safety, Environmental and Waste Management legislation.
Conduct audits, inspections, risk assessments and compliance reviews.
Develop and maintain Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), SOPs and related safety documentation.
Incident & Risk Management
Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses and environmental events.
Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions.
Monitor safety performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Environmental Management
Lead and continuously improve the company's Environmental Management System (ISO 14001).
Oversee environmental compliance across waste collection, transport, processing and recycling operations.
Ensure compliance with company permits, licences and environmental monitoring requirements.
Support sustainability initiatives and environmental awareness programmes.
Training & Employee Engagement
Develop and manage EHS training programmes.
Deliver manual handling training, inductions and toolbox talks.
Support managers and employees in maintaining safe working practices.
Stakeholder & Operational Support
Liaise with regulatory authorities, auditors and external service providers.
Support fleet safety, contractor management and operational compliance activities.
Assist with the management of the waste facility and customer compliance queries.
Maintain and monitor key EHS documentation, records and reporting.
