Job Title: Finance Administrator (Payroll)Salary: £32,000 per annumHours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm (37.5 hours per week)

About the Role

We are looking for an organised and proactive Finance Administrator to join our Finance team. This role has a primary responsibility for the accurate and timely administration of payroll while also providing support across the wider finance function.

The successful candidate will have previous payroll experience, excellent attention to detail, and strong organisational skills. A payroll qualification (such as CIPP) or AAT qualification is desirable but not essential. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied role and wants to develop their career within a busy finance department.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll

  • Collect, review and verify weekly and monthly timesheets, overtime submissions and payroll information from managers.

  • Process weekly and monthly payrolls accurately and within agreed deadlines using Sage Payroll.

  • Calculate salaries, overtime, holiday pay, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP and other entitlements), deductions, pension contributions and payroll adjustments.

  • Administer PAYE in accordance with HMRC regulations and ensure compliance with current payroll legislation.

  • Submit payroll information through Real Time Information (RTI).

  • Process new starters, leavers, salary changes, contractual amendments and employee record updates.

  • Maintain accurate, confidential payroll records and employee information.

  • Process payroll for self-employed workers under the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), where applicable.

  • Administer workplace pensions, including auto-enrolment and pension contributions.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end payroll activities, including payroll reconciliations, P60s and P11Ds where applicable.

  • Respond promptly to payroll queries and resolve discrepancies professionally.

  • Keep up to date with changes to payroll legislation and HMRC guidance.

  • Assist with purchase ledger and sales ledger processing.

  • Support bank reconciliations and other routine finance reconciliations.

  • Raise sales invoices and process supplier invoices.

  • Assist with credit control and monitoring outstanding customer accounts.

  • Support month-end procedures and the preparation of management information.

  • Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems.

  • Work closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll and financial data is accurate and up to date.

  • Assist with finance audits and compliance activities.

  • Provide general administrative support to the Finance team as required.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Previous experience in a payroll or finance administration role.

  • Good understanding of UK payroll legislation, PAYE and HMRC requirements.

  • Experience using Xero Payroll or similar payroll software.

  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.

  • Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Professional approach to handling confidential information.

Desirable

  • AAT qualification or payroll qualification (e.g. CIPP).

  • Knowledge of workplace pensions and auto-enrolment.

  • Experience of Xero or other accounting software.

  • Experience supporting a finance department with purchase ledger, sales ledger or reconciliations.
