The Opportunity: Depot Manager, Widnes
We are seeking an accomplished and commercially astute Depot Manager to lead our Widnes depot. This pivotal role offers the chance to take full responsibility for the operational excellence and sustained profitability of a key site. You will be instrumental in overseeing all depot operations, inspiring and managing a high-performing team, upholding the highest standards of health and safety, and ensuring every customer experiences exceptional service.
This is a hands-on leadership position where you will drive projects from initial enquiry through to successful delivery and off-hire, ensuring the depot consistently operates with maximum efficiency and professionalism. About this role
Key Responsibilities
Lead with Excellence
Oversee the day-to-day running of the depot to ensure operations run smoothly and efficiently
Lead, motivate and develop depot staff, creating a positive and productive working environment
Ensure the depot maintains the highest professional standards as a key location where customers regularly visit
Drive Commercial Success
Hold full P&L responsibility for depot performance
Support sales growth alongside Regional Sales and Major Account Managers
Ensure enquiries are responded to promptly and costed accurately and profitably
Deliver Outstanding Service
Manage hire contracts from initial enquiry through to delivery, hire period and off-hire
Conduct site surveys and produce sketch drawings where required
Coordinate deliveries, installations and contractor activity to ensure projects run smoothly
Maintain Operational Excellence
Ensure fleet preparation, inspections and servicing are completed on time
Monitor depot activity to ensure equipment availability and efficient turnaround
Ensure materials purchased are cost effective and fit for purpose
Champion Health & Safety
Maintain the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environmental compliance
Lead by example in promoting safe working practices across the depot
About You
We’re looking for someone who leads with confidence, communicates clearly and thrives in a fast-paced operational environment.
You will ideally have:
Experience in depot management within the Hire industry, ideally power generation
Strong commercial awareness and financial responsibility
Excellent leadership and people management skills
A proactive approach with strong organisational ability
The confidence to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally
A strong commitment to health and safety standards
Must be calm, measured and resilient, allowing the ability to cope in high stress situations.
Communication both internally and externally must be exemplary, and a strong self awareness with the ability to adapt to changing situations.
Must have a positive attitude, lead by example and ensure this is reciprocated within the team.
Ability to performance manage the team and deal with sensitive situations swiftly and effectively whilst being empathetic
H&S is paramount and must be able to command authority in this ar
