As a Generator Service Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the peak operational functionality and pristine presentation of our critical equipment, including generators, diesel tanks, and associated systems. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will perform essential routine inspections, execute precise testing and servicing, and expertly manage breakdowns and repairs. Your role will also involve crucial installation and commissioning tasks, all while upholding our unwavering standards for customer service, safety, and quality.
This role includes participation in an on-call rota, for which you will receive additional compensation for both being on call and for any call-outs completed. About this role
As a Generator Service Engineer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our high operational standards and ensuring customer satisfaction. Your responsibilities will include:
Championing our Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards across all operations.
Achieving optimal, safe productivity levels in your designated workload, managing all job-related tasks efficiently, including breakdowns, services, pre-delivery inspections (PDIs), damage assessment, and accurate timesheet completion.
Delivering exceptional customer service, fostering positive relationships with our clients.
Proactively identifying and reporting any unsafe practices to ensure a secure working environment.
Strategically managing servicing schedules to keep overdue servicing below 6% of the total fleet in your area.
Actively engaging in continuous professional development, keeping all training and competencies current via the PDP skills matrix.
Providing adaptable support to the Depot and Service Manager, stepping in as required to meet operational needs.
Ensuring your company vehicle is impeccably maintained and fully equipped with necessary tools, consumables, and safety gear.
Contributing to a collaborative team environment, offering support to colleagues when needed.
Upholding and enhancing depot and engineering standards to ensure operational excellence.
What You'll Bring:
Proven skills and experience in mechanical or electrical disciplines directly relevant to generator equipment.
A track record of performing competent maintenance routines, whether in field service or depot settings.
In-depth expertise in fault diagnosis, dismantling, repair, and testing of defined equipment types.
Crucially, demonstrable experience working with generator engines is essential for this role.
Desirable Skills:
A C&G, NVQ, or other recognised professional or vocational qualification in a relevant technical discipline.
Broad experience across multiple technical disciplines, such as mechanical and electrical.
Hands-on experience in the service, maintenance, installation, and repair of diesel-driven generators.

What you will need
Required criteria
- Generally, skills and experience in mechanical or electrical disciplines which are relevant to the scope of equipment types involved in the role
- For servicing and maintenance roles, (whether field service or depot based) skills must be adequate to reliably perform or quickly develop reliable performance of competent maintenance routines.
- For repair role skills must be in depth, sufficient for competent fault diagnosis, dismantling, repair and testing of the defined equipment type.
- Experience in working with generator engines is an essential criteria and applications without the above essentials will not be considered
- Clean and tidy appearance is essential as you will be meeting our customers as is a full driving license as travel will be an essential part of the job.
Desired criteria
- Hold a C and G, NVQ or other recognised professional or vocational qualifications in the relevant technical discipline.
- Have in-depth experience of a multiple technical disciplines, e.g. both mechanical and electrical.
- Hands-on experience of service, maintenance, installation and repair of diesel driven generators.
