About the role

About the role

These permanent Port Operator positions will based at our busy Port of Grangemouth. After your initial training, you will work a 24/7, 12 hour rostered shift pattern, averaging 38.5 hours per week.

 Our working environment comprises warehouses, quaysides or the hold of a ship. You will mainly be involved in loading and discharging ships and a range of other tasks associated with cargo handling, warehousing and distribution.  A significant amount of your shifts will be spent driving heavy plant such as Straddle Carriers, Fork Lift Trucks, Tugs and Cranes. 

 Although specialist in-house training will be provided, ideally you should already have good plant experience and will have a valid fork lift truck licence.  You must also have a full UK driving licence and meet Group 2 driver medical fitness standards.    You will be comfortable working at height and in an outdoors environment.

You should be a safe and competent driver with a positive approach to health and safety.  Good numeracy and basic IT skills are also required to allow you to process detailed numerical information for reading container numbers and identifying storage locations.  To help us respond to customer requirements, regular overtime working will be required therefore you must have a flexible approach to your working hours. 

What are we looking for?

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking individuals with:

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Fork lift truck licence.

  • Previous shift working and plant driving experience.

  • A good understanding of the importance of Health and Safety in a heavily industrialised environment.

The salary during your initial training period (averaging 4 weeks) is £27,326 for working day shifts, 35 hours per week.  After you have completed your training period, you will commence 12 hour shift working and your salary will increase to £31,431 + £8,015 shift allowance.
