Job IntroductionInstalled in our care home is a bespoke barista café open to residents, families, and the local community. We are currently looking for Part-Time café staff to serve in this unique facility. Compassion and understanding of care home residents and older people are important for this position.
Responsibilities and DutiesThe café sells a range of food and drink through a simplified model without the need for extensive kitchen and food preparation facilities. Hot drinks are individually made using the barista coffee machine, and cold drinks are available from refrigerated cabinets.
About the role
Key Responsibilities of Café Staff Include:
Show warmth and support to all residents and their families, helping to promote independence and dignity to positively enhance their lives.
Front-of-counter delivery of food and drink to customers.
Operation and cleaning of the bean-to-cup coffee machine.
Handling payment transactions and daily cashing up of the till.
Keeping the café clean and tidy, clearing tables, wiping surfaces, and using the dishwasher.
Raising any maintenance issues to the Manager.
Assisting in the delivery of parties or other events as directed by the Manager.
Promoting and practicing relevant health and safety, food hygiene, and safety standards.
Responsible for maintaining effective stock control, storage, and rotation to minimize wastage.
Compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, including those for cash and stock handling.
Undertake any other duties as deemed necessary to assist in the day-to-day running of the café.
Qualification and Skills Required:
Food Hygiene Certificate / Qualification in Hospitality / Catering
Excellent Customer Service Skills
Person Specification:
The role of Café Staff demands the following blend of skills, experience, knowledge, and behaviors, assessed by application letter, CV, and/or interview/assessment as deemed necessary.
Essential
Food Hygiene certificate.
Knowledge of Health & Safety.
Good numeracy skills.
Desirable
Knowledge of Food Hygiene and Health & Safety legislation.
Qualification in hospitality/catering.
Up-to-date First Aid qualification.
The ability to work quickly while remaining welcoming and friendly to customers.
The ability to deal with customers’ queries and concerns politely.
The ability to work as part of a team.
Experience of working in a café or other customer-facing environment.
Experience of till and chip and pin operation and cash handling.
A dynamic individual with a ‘can-do’ positive attitude and approach.
Flexible approach to tasks and workload.
An appreciation of and commitment to the culture and principles of Oakminster.
Willingness to work unsociable hours and weekends if required.
